Of course, the one exercise that will help you to lose weight is the one you will actually do… and do on a regular basis.</p>
<p>Lets review….Your weight x distance = energy used walking. Time does not matter as much as distance. If you speed up to walking a mile in 13 minutes or less, you will be burning more calories per mile but for most beginning walkers, it is best to increase the distance before working on speed.</p>
<p><span id="more-261"></span></p>
<p>A simple rule of thumb is 100 calories per mile for a 160 pound person.</p>
<p>You will need to schedule your walking just like you would any other important event in your busy day. Write it right down in your schedule like an appointment that cannot be missed.</p>
<p>Stuff happens…and there will, of course, be times that you have to miss your appointment with your walking shoes but make sure that you arent jus making excuses.</p>
<p>Find a friend to be your walking partner. It makes it a lot easier to go do it if there is someone waiting for you and that you have made a commitment to.</p>
<p>Better yet…make that friend your spouse or significant other…this can be quality time together in your busy lives.</p>
<p>Walking is not very expensive as compared to joining a gym or buying expensive exercise equipment, but you do need to buy yourself a good pair of shoes…ones that are made for walking. Go to your local sports emporium and ask the salesperson to advise you on the best shoes for walking.</p>
<p>There will be a lot of choices….and the most expensive isnt always the  best choice. Be sure that the  shoes you buy will provide support for your arches.</p>
